I have an Ipod Touch and it recently stopped working. Can someone help me out?

Now my iPod Touch has a p code on it (4-digit numeric code) and its stopped working. When I turn it on it gives me the symbol to plug my iPod into itunes. Now when i hook it up to my computer it says i must enter my p code but when i turn the iPod itself on it still haves the symbol with no way to enter my code. Without my ipods code i cant even reset the device. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
