Why Saudi Arabia does not allow women to drive automobiles?

The Saudi law of not allowing women to drive is insanely STUPID. In fact, it makes women break Saudi's other law about men and women mixing. Since the women can't drive, they have to hire drivers to drive them around, and the drivers have to be male - and are usually unrelelated, foreign workers. This puts the women alone in cars with unrelated men - and on top of that, men who may be rapists or skeezy dudes. The whole thing is so stupid, Saudi really needs to let women drive.
