From a Medical stand-point, how do you find out if you have been infected with mold.?

We were doing a bathroom reno (wet dry-wall and vapor Barrier) that has black damp mold on it. My husband cleared the area but forgot to use a mask. Do you think he should see his doctor and what can be done?
