Does anyone know what Distal Colitis is?

HELP!!!! I went for a cigmoidoscopy on friday and the doctor said he can see some inflammation and i have to go to hospital for further tests he suggested it may be Distal Colitis ( I already suffer from IBS) but i dont no what this is and am petrified!!!! I have visions of dying young and colostomy bags... Does any one else suffer from this and have any information like how it effects there life ?? I'm 30 ! ;(
